8th Grade Promotion Requirements

At Portola Middle School, we value and appreciate students who attend school daily and on-time, work hard, behave well, and perform well in their academics.  These requirements are especially important for our 8th grade students to participate in 8th Grade Activities and the Promotion Ceremony.

For 8th grade students, we look at the student's behavior, attendance, and academics to determine their eligibility to participate in end of the year activities and the Promotion Ceremony.  Some 8th Grade Activities include but not limited to:

  • After School Sports (year long)
  • Olympic Day
  • 8th Grade Knott's Berry Farm Field Trip
  • 8th Grade Dance
  • Yearbook Signing Party
  • 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony

For their academics requirement, students cannot have any failing grades in their last trimester and are required to complete Credit Recovery to make up for any F's in previous trimesters during 7th and 8th grade.  If you have questions or concerns about your student's promotion status, please contact your student's school counselor.
