What is Portola Preparatory Academy?
Portola Preparatory Academy is a new program starting in Fall 2022 that prepares students for college-level coursework and is now accepting incoming sixth-grade students. Portola Preparatory Academy applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis and are due by May 27, 2022 to the Portola Middle School Office. How does it work?
Portola Preparatory Academy is a school-within-a-school model serving students who plan to enter Orange High School's Early College Academy Program and earn substantial credit towards their two-year Associate's Degree or four-year Bachelor's Degree while in High School.
What is the curriculum?
Students in Portola Preparatory Academy will gain the skills needed to complete college coursework in high school through honors-level coursework with AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), including visits to local colleges to learn the study skills required to achieve at high academic levels. Additionally, Portola Preparatory Academy students will be enrolled in Pre-AP (Advanced Placement) coursework to experience instructional practices and routines that help develop the essential critical thinking skills needed to succeed in AP. They will also strengthen their math and coding skills through C-STEM Robotics courses designed by UC Davis.
