8th Grade Promotion Requirements
At Portola Middle School, students are expected to attend school daily and on time, work hard, behave well, and perform well academically. These requirements are essential for our 8th-grade students to participate in 8th Grade Activities and the Promotion Ceremony.
We look at 8th-grade students' behavior, attendance, and academics to determine their eligibility to participate in end-of-the-year activities and the Promotion Ceremony. Some 8th Grade Activities include but are not limited to:
- After School Sports (year-long)
- Olympic Day
- 8th Grade Knott's Berry Farm Field Trip
- 8th Grade Dance
- Yearbook Signing Party
- 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony
Regarding the academic requirement, it is imperative that students do not have any failing grades in their last trimester. In the event of any F's in previous trimesters during 7th and 8th Grade, students are mandated to complete Credit Recovery. We encourage you to contact your student's counselor if you have any questions or concerns about your student's promotion status.
